Are you an experienced Claims & Insurance Officer looking for a rewarding contract role in the public sector with a strong focus on third-party recovery?

I am currently partnering with a key government client with an exciting short term contract opportunity for an Insurance and Claims Officer. This is a critical role within the Legal, Insurance & Compliance business unit.

About the Opportunity

As the Insurance and Claims Officer, you will assist the Manager Insurance and Claims to maintain insurance cover for business risks, ensure appropriate handling of all claims against the department, and drive the recovery of repair costs from third parties who damage infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Third Party Damage Recovery: Identify third parties responsible for damaging infrastructure, issue demand letters, and administer the legal process for recovering repair costs.
  • Insurance Portfolio Management: Assist with ensuring all insurance policies respond to loss events, maintain insurance policy declarations, and assist internal stakeholders in understanding cover details.
  • Claims Settlement & Reporting: Ensure all claims are identified and settled in an effective, timely manner. Maintain a comprehensive claims management system and provide end-of-month financial and major claims reporting.
  • Technical Advice & Stakeholder Support: Assist, train, and advise customer support and operational teams with technical guidance regarding liability and insurance claims processes.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review insurance and claims processes to implement simpler, innovative practices.

Ideally you will:

  • Claims & Recovery Experience: Demonstrated experience in end-to-end insurance and claims management, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in third-party recovery claims.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with proven experience in conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • Legal & Technical Knowledge: Sound understanding of legal principles, government directions, and insurance legislation.
  • Relevant Qualifications: Qualifications in Business, Commerce, Accounting, Law, or related fields (or ANZIIF Affiliate/Associate status) are desirable.
